Frequently Asked Questions

What is sex therapy?

Sex therapy is a type of talk therapy that helps to explore the psychological, emotional, relational, social, and physiological factors that may be impacting your sexual wellness. If you have been experiencing any type of sexual dysfunction or pain, we always recommend an appointment with your physician to discuss your concerns prior to engaging in therapy, to ensure we are tailoring your treatment plan appropriately for you.

If I see you for individual therapy, can I also start couples therapy with you (or vice versa)?

Once you have started individual therapy with a therapist, you are unable to also begin couples therapy with the same therapist. This is to ensure equal opportunity to develop a therapeutic relationship with all members of a partnership.

How are sessions held?

Sessions are held using a secure video platform, which is compliant with provincial and federal privacy laws. Phone is used as a back-up when technical difficulties arise. In-person sessions will be offered starting in summer 2025.

Can I book a session longer than 50-minutes?

Yes, most therapists offer sessions longer than 50-minutes, at a pro-rated fee. Please inquire with your therapist about booking sessions over the typical 50-minute time slot.

How much are sessions?

Each therapist charges a different set fee for sessions. Typically, therapists will charge a different fee for individual and couples sessions. Please see our “Who We Are” page to see each therapist’s fees.

Are sessions covered by insurance? Can you bill directly to my insurance?

Many extended health care insurance plans cover some or all of the cost of sessions. Please check with your insurance provider to see if you are eligible for coverage of services based on your current plan. We do not direct bill, however, we provide financial receipts for all session payments which you can submit to your insurance.

What is your cancellation policy?

Sessions must be cancelled with at least 48-hours notice. Sessions that are cancelled less than 48-hours before the scheduled session time or are missed completely will incur a charge of the session rate.

How many sessions do I need to meet my goals?

We typically do not provide a specific number of sessions needed to meet goals, as there are many factors that play in to a treatment plan. We encourage you to discuss this further with your therapist to get a better idea of how and when you may begin to see change and progress towards your therapeutic goals.

Is therapy going to fix my problems?

Going in with realistic expectations of what therapy can do for you is crucial. Although therapy cannot “fix” your problems, per se, therapy can offer you new perspectives, more adaptive ways of managing your thoughts, feelings, and behaviours, a safe and non-judgemental space to process your experiences, and opportunities for you to learn more about the patterns and dynamics you are engaged in. Many factors play in to therapeutic outcomes, including, the strength of the relationship with your therapist, the different therapeutic approaches used, your readiness for change, applying what you learn in session to your life outside of session, etc. We always encourage open and continuous dialogue with your therapist about your experiences during the therapeutic process and to openly discuss your experiences within your current therapeutic relationship to ensure you are continuing to obtain value from your work together.
